Florida is a southeastern state in the United States. Florida is bordered by Georgia and Alabama to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Nicknamed the "Sunshine State" for its warm subtropical climate, Florida is comprised of four large urban areas, a number of smaller industrial cities, and several small towns. Florida is the fourth most populous state in the nation with a 2009 estimated population of over 18 million residents. Florida’s capital city is Tallahassee. The Miami Metropolitan Area, commonly referred to as South Florida and consisting of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach, is the state’s largest metropolitan area. Jacksonville ranks as Florida’s largest city.
Florida cities have several applications for CCTV security camera systems. Several cities have installed red light security cameras to capture images of red-light runners. Downtown Miami was equipped with CCTV surveillance cameras in 2006 in order to deter crime and help the public to feel safer in the booming entertainment district. Numerous Florida businesses keep a watchful eye on their property using security cameras and digital video recording equipment. In several instances, these Florida security systems have provided sufficient video evidence to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of criminals.
