There are several very important benefits to have DVRs on the job sites. We give customers, subcontractors, city and state building officials, engineers, architects and even the media access to our cameras. It gives the project owners (customers) the opportunity to watch their project develop without actually having to make a visit to the jobsite. We want to portray the feeling that we are here to do a quality project at the most cost effective price. We believe by giving access to everyone involved in the project the opportunity to see what is happening in real time, a higher level of trust is obtained from all involved.
There are also the security aspects to consider. Before we had cameras on the job sites, job site theft was a big deal. Since we have put cameras on the job sites, I would say that 90% of the job site’s theft issues have gone away. Most job site theft is done by people working on the projects. Once they know that they are being watched all of the time things seem to stop disappearing!
I don't know how to put a dollar amount on how much money this has saved us. One thing that I am fairly confident of is the fact that they have been instrumental in our ability to function more efficiently. For example on the first project that we were doing with the cameras in Corinth, MS, we were trying to design the concession stand for the movie theatre lobby area. The design architect was in Colorado. The owner was in Memphis. The engineer was in Russellville. I was on site with a couple of people helping me. With the aid of the cameras we were able to have my men lay-out on the floor where the owner wanted all of the counters. That way he could see sort of what it would look like. By the end of the conference call the concession stand had been designed. The drawings were emailed to me the next day and we were able to continue without delays. Without the aid of the cameras, internet and email a meeting would have been scheduled at the jobsite with all of the parties involved and then the drawings done and Fed Ex to me. This would have taken weeks and delayed the opening of the theatre.
